Swedish Settee

Restoration, re-carving and French polish
 
This an example of some in depth restoration on an 1820s mahogany settee made in Stockholm.

This is a frumpy old sofa in pea green velour.

These are the two arm faces with molding and carving missing.  The Neptunes are looking a bit puny.

This is one Neptune on the mend.  We are blocking out the curved molding and flower at his feet.

With the help of a scroll saw we are slowly putting the Neptunes back into tip top shape.

Ah...it feels so good to hold my trident again.  Here the hand is carved back into place and polished to match.

This is the tail which was badly blocked in from a previous restoration.  We re-carved the detail on the tail to give it more life.

Here we have rebuilt the structure of the back of the settee by replacing the missing vertical styles and re-bracing the upper left and right corner, all with old recuperated wood.  The back was colored and polished so that a sofa table might be placed behind the settee.
